Obituary of Thomas Hunt

Thomas Lea (Tom) Hunt 71 of Roanoke, cherished husband, loving father and devoted grandfather and great grandfather passed away Monday, February 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hunt, an infant daughter, Sandra Lea Hunt and a daughter in law, Tina Gilpin Hunt. Tom was proud of his service in the U S Army as a Ranger and Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He and his wife worked as team truck drivers for more than 30 years. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Patricia "Patty" Hunt; children, Sue Deegan and husband John of Salem; Tom Hunt of Charleston, S.C.; Ed Hunt and wife Karen of Roanoke; grandchildren, Amber Hunt, Kelsea Rippy and husband Shaun, Blacie and Alex Hunt, Molly and Eve-Lynn Deegan; great granddaughter, Cadence Flottemesch; sisters, Pat Vitela and husband John; and Marge Phelps all of Montrose, Colorado; brothers, John Hunt and wife Carrie of Canastota, New York; Ed Hunt and wife Donna of Big Island; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Susan Bentley. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
