Obituary of Mary Shelton

Mary Elizabeth Shelton 87 of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013. She was preceded by her parents, Nannie and Hubert Brasefield; granddaughter, Julie Shelton; great grandson Jeremiah Lee Shelton and sisters, Edith "Buck" Wood, Elva "Pete" Parrish. Mrs. Shelton retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. And was a long time member of New Life Christian Ministries and a proud member of the Red Hat Society. She is a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend that will be dearly missed by all. Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 68 glorious years, Walter Carlton Shelton; two sons, James Byron Shelton and wife Sally of OK., Jeffery Lynn Shelton and mate Mydonna Harris of Roanoke; grandchildren, John Shelton and wife Grace of Ireland, Joey Shelton of OK., Jenny Beth Foyer and husband Raymond of WI., Kelly Anne Mudd and husband Timothy of N.C., Justin Lanier Shelton and wife Sara of Bedford; five great grandchildren, Thomas, Samuel, Gloria, Michael and Jackson; sisters, Hilda Strickler and husband Gerald of Woodbridge, Judy Rollen and husband Jim of N.C. along with a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice and Home Instead Care for their care and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Life Christian Ministries in her name. A service celebrating Mrs. Shelton's life will be 1:00pm Friday, February 15, 2013 at New Life Christian Ministries, Airport Road, Roanoke with Rev. Walter Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home.
