The Bible gives us the wonderful prospect of seeing our loved ones again on a paradise earth. At Psalms 37:9-11 & 29, it gives us the hope of living forever on a paradise earth. It will be a time when Isaiah 33:24 will take place and “no resident will say ‘I am sick.” On this paradise earth, Rev. 21:4 promises us that “death will be no more.” I know this may not relieve your deep grief at this time, but please take faith in God’s promises.

To Carlton: I remember being in a car, probably Dad's, in Roanoke with Carlton and Mary when I was about ten and we were visiting our Virginia relatives. We stopped where all the houses looked alike and Mary said yours was the one with the jug in front. That is my only memory of Mary. I thought she was so pretty and you were so handsome. I also remember when you came to visit us on our Ohio farm before you were married. I must have been about five. You saddled and rode our horse and you taught us how to climb the big old apple tree in the barnyard. I was so impressed!I also fondly remember Aunt Maude coming to help when Barbara and Olivene were born. I thought she was so kind, gentle, and sweet. She paid attention to us kids, and we loved it. Of course, that is why her son was also like that and why her son chose a bride who was like his mother. I didn't see much of you two over the years, and I know I missed out on some choice experiences. But one day, we will all be together where there will be no parting, and we can take up where we left off. I recently lost my brother, Lance, so I know a little of what you must be going through now. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to you and all of your family. Love, Sharon

Mary and Carleton were so kind to me when I was a freshman at Hollins in 1981. We had never met before but they knew that I was Lowell's daughter. They surprised me once with a ride in Carleton's restored car and brought me care packages during exam time. It is rare to find such caring people and when my Mom called to say Mary had passed it brought back many fond memories of the year I spent at Hollins. Even though I didn't keep in touch, I have often thought of you and Carlton and will never forget you and the special ways you made me feel so at home in Roanoke and at Hollins.
