Obituary of Katherine Hannah

Katherine Frances (Burger) Hannah, of Roanoke passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Katherine was born May 26, 1922, in Roanoke, the daughter of Lewis Thomas Burger and Martha Elin (Shafer) Burger. She was married to Therian Carson Hannah on August 1, 1941, in Roanoke. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1991. Katherine also was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Oliver, Russell and Charles Burger; and sisters, Nettie Pasley, Elsie Comstock, Evelyn Abshire, and Louise Blankenship. Katherine is survived by her children, Sylvia Warner of Greenville, MI, Jo Ann Ring of Roanoke, Therian C. and Bonnie Hannah Jr. of Durham, NC, Betty Rotenberry of Roanoke, and Sandra and Don Nichols of Bent Mountain, VA. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Mike, Larry and Steve Warner, all of Michigan; Sonya McCaul of Greensboro, NC; Allen Ring of Roanoke; Laura (Ring) Barton of Boones Mill, VA; Tammy Barnhill of Mountain View, CA; Sherri (Luckado) Bailey of Roanoke; Jesse Luckado of Blue Ridge, VA; and Michael Nichols of Bent Mountain. Other survivors include 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Katherine's family wants to extend a special thanks to the nursing and care staff at Pheasant Ridge Assisted Living, Nursing/Rehab units, and the Carilion RMH Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Garden City Grace Brethren Church, 3504 Bandy Rd., Roanoke, VA 24014 in Katherine's name. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd. A service celebrating her life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Simpson Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Mitchell of Garden City Grace Brethren Church officiating.
