Obituary of Lily Hartman

March 31, 1925 ~ November 21, 2012 Lily S. Hartman, 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. She had been a resident of Roanoke County prior to moving to Weatherford, Texas, in October 2007. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 64 years, James William Hartman.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Faye and Bill Amos, of Vinton, Va., Deanna and Jim Chambers, of Weatherford, Texas, Becky and Larry Norris, of Graford, Texas, and Jim and Ann Hartman, of Perry, Fla. Her survivors also include seven grandchildren and their spouses, Anthony and Mary Norris, of Arlington, Texas, Mary Catherine and Tad Johnson, of Benbrook, Texas, Laura and Ron Goebel, of Brock, Texas, Nadia and Greg Heller, of Stone Mountain, Ga., Jeremy Hartman, of Boston, Mass., Matthew Hartman, of Lake City, Fla., and James Dale Chambers, of Houston, Texas. There are six great-grandchildren, Lucas Hill, of Mill Sap, Texas, Casey Johnson, of Benbrook, Texas, Jennifer Norris, of Arlington, Texas, James William Goebel, of Brock, Texas, Mykayla Goebel, of Brock, Texas, and Samantha Heller, of Stone Mountain, Ga. Her surviving brothers and one sister-in-law are Grover and Florence Sink, and Paul Sink, all of Roanoke.
Lily retired from Oak Hall Cap & Gown in 1983 where she worked as an Inspector. One of Lily's favorite things to do was planting and tending her flower garden. Her other past times included sewing, embroidery, beading and ceramics. Most of the items she made, she gave to others as gifts.
A Celebration of Lily's Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012, in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home at 5160 Peters Creek Road in Roanoke, Va. Her Funeral Service will be officiated by Michael and Scott Hudson. Interment will follow in the Hartman Family Cemetery located at South Indian Grave Road in Roanoke County. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association . Lily will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife and as a loving and affectionate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who provided a warm and welcoming home to her family.
