Obituary of Dean Hash

Dean E. Hash, 96, a long time resident of Salem, and former resident of South Williamson, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2012. He was born in Harlowton, Montana to the parents of Arthur and Rose Hash. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Campbell Hash; sister, Helen Blackard; and daughter, Susan McCoy. He is survived by one daughter, Deanna Cochran (Ernie Cochran); and two grandchildren, Kimberly Scott (Joey), Ernie Cochran II (Kristin); two great-grandchildren, Daisy and Levi Scott; one brother, Elmer Hash; and son-in-law, Grover McCoy. When the United States entered World War II, Dean enlisted and proudly became part of the 1876 Aviation Engineer Battalion, 5th Air Force Company C, where he was awarded a bronze star. Following the war, Dean worked at Persinger Supply Company for forty years and won numerous sales awards throughout his employment. He was a member as well as former deacon at Rogers Park Baptist Church in Kentucky. During his retirement years, Dean enjoyed taking trips to the south, watching college football, reading, fishing with his son-in-laws, yardwork, and taking long walks with his dog. The family wishes to thank the following physicians from Lewis Gale Medical Center for their outstanding care: Dr. Daniel Bauer, Dr. Stephen J. Vivian, Dr. Sung Joon Cho, Dr. Dennis Garvin, and Dr. Clifford P. Culpepper. The Pheasant Ridge Senior Living staff is also being commended for providing outstanding and compassionate care. A graveside service with military honors from DAV Chapter 3 will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Sherwood Memorial Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Rescue Mission of the Roanoke Valley or Apple Ridge Farm. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 540-366-0707.
