Walter N. Hoeppner, 81, of Roanoke, passed away at home with his family on Sunday, October 14, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Hoeppner; and sister, Jane Simpson. Walter is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patsy M. Hoeppner, of Roanoke; sons, Jeffery and wife, Norma, Matt, Brian and wife, Crystal, and Mitchell; daughter, Jenifer and husband, John Wietfeldt; grandchildren, Tamara (Kris) Wietfeldt, Nicholas Wietfeldt, Erica Mason, Lydia and Ethan Hoeppner; great-grandson, Henry Wietfeldt Thomas; brother, Jerry and wife, Bev Hoeppner; sister, Loann Oberkiser; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., and retired from Rea Magnet Wire after 39 years, working in the Fort Wayne, Ind., Buena Vista, Va., and Laurinburg, N.C., facilities. He was a leader of Boy Scout Troop 348 in Hoagland, Ind., and school board member of East Allen County Schools, Ind., as well as board member and chairman of Buena Vista School Board, in Buena Vista, Va. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and traveling. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Roanoker Restaurant. Services will be private.
